If you're here, then you're probably pursuing a thread and/or CR with Penny and want to help make playing his psychic powers easier, and for that I thank you soooo much. I've made a little form to fill out that covers the bases of his abilities, and if you want a more detailed rundown of his powers, please check out the abilities section of his application.

In short, Penny picks up on the thoughts and feelings of other people pretty much constantly, most of the time it's white noise since there's just so much from so many sources, including thoughts from whole other universes in certain cases. However, sometimes there are certain people whose thoughts and feelings stand out more than others, and then there are people who can close their mind more effectively.

If your character is prone to heightened emotional states that they struggle to control for whatever reason, such as mental illness, it's likely that they are projecting thoughts and feelings outward more loudly.

If your character is more closed off and in control of their feelings for whatever reason, be it years of practice or they're just more emotionally stable, then their thoughts will be more static sounding.

Then, there's characters who have powers and/or magic that allows them to defend against a psychic almost completely, and there's a section in the form for that as well.

Lastly, Penny is also able to delve deep into a person's mind and use spells that can manipulate their memories, dreams and control minds. He is against doing any of that stuff without someone asking him to, and even then he'd likely refuse, but I'll include a section for all of these abilities on the form to be thorough.

THE FORM:
<font face=georgia><big><span style="color: #872020;"><b>CHARACTER NAME</b></span></big> (<user name="characterjournal">) <b>DEFENSES:</b> Does your character have powers and/or magic that can defend against psychic abilities? If so, please detail them in a sentence or two, and please fill out the rest of the form in case they lose those defenses in the future. If not, skip this part. <b>MENTAL STATE:</b> What sort of mental and emotional state does your character have and how loud do you think their thoughts and feelings are because of that mental and emotional state? See the body of this post for more information. <b>OOC PREFERENCE:</b> Regardless of how loud their mind is or isn't, is there anything that you'd prefer Penny does not pick up on? Or perhaps you'd prefer he struggle to hear all of it. Deerington's warping should be reason enough for even characters with normally loud projected thoughts and feelings to randomly be hard for him to discern. Just let me know where you draw the line here. <b>MEMORY & MIND CONTROL:</b> Though Penny would never mess with someone's memories or attempt mind control, you can state here if you are against this ever happening anyway, OR if you're interested in one day trying to utilize his talents in these areas for a plot etc. <b>DREAM MANIPULATION:</b> Penny doesn't mess with dreams much, but he's not against doing it without permission for whatever reason. He also enters dreams to speak to people when they are asleep if there's no other way to reach them. Here is where you can make clear whether or not you are okay with him visiting their dream to talk to them, and/or mess with the dream they are having in some way. <b>ANYTHING ELSE?:</b> Have something else to say or suggest? Aziraphale (guardianofeden)

DEFENSES: Since Aziraphale's an angel, he's got his own mental powers that might make it hard for a mortal to read his mind, but he's not used to having to guard himself against that, and his abilities are a little on the fritz in deer, anyway, so I'm alright if you want to have his thoughts be more transparent they they usually would be for Penny under normal circumstances.

MENTAL STATE: Aziraphale's mostly a well-adjusted person, though he does have some anxieties from the things he and Crowley went through in their world, just before coming to Deerington; worrying that he's cursed himself, that he didn't do the right thing, that Heaven or Hell are going to come and find him and/or Crowley and get back at them for stopping the apocalypse, that sort of thing. Also, he's a being made of love and holy energy, and he tends to exude it. It helps the bitchiness go down easier, maybe? :P If Penny meets him when Crowley is also there, that "love" thing would probably be the only thing that Penny would feel coming from him like a bright, neon sign flashing above his head, except for the copious amounts of INTERNAL PANIC, because those two idiots haven't yet figured out how to use their words and realize that they've been dancing around each other for no reason for 6000 years, so feel free to have him notice that and catch on if he ever sees them together.

OOC PREFERENCE: I don't mind if you want to have him pick up on things. It can be fun and throw him out of his comfort zone, which needs to happen more often!

MEMORY & MIND CONTROL: This would have to be something discussed on a case by case basis. I can't imagine a time when Aziraphale would ask someone to scramble his memories or control his mind like that, but eh, you never now what can happen in rp. TBH, though, I think it would be something that he wouldn't go asking anyone but Crowley to do, unless something extremely unusual happened, or the demon wasn't in the game anymore.

DREAM MANIPULATION: Yeah, feel free to interact with his dreams! He's been dealing with some things in them that he might not feel comfortable sharing with people, but I'm still up for it if it comes up sometime!

ANYTHING ELSE?: Since Aziraphale has his own mental powers, he tends to project what he wants the person to feel or read what they're feeling himself. "Be Not Afraid! I'm friend-shaped :V" and "Calm down, calm down, it's ok!" sorts of things, and using what he can tell of their emotions or just what he can read off of them to base how he projects himself to them. Feel free to have Penny notice him doing it and call him on it, if you like, or have it fail completely when he tries it, I don't mind!
